People go to doctors most often for pain. Many times these pains become chronic and do not go away. Most people have used Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil), or pain meds like Tylenol.
NSAIDS may cause many different side effects. The most common side effects are ulcers and liver toxicity.
To avoid side effects many people search out for alternative answers. What you may not know is that your diet may be causing much of your inflammation. Many foods that you eat cause your body to produce inflammation.
So, before you take a drug or try alternative methods to reduce the pain and inflammation, you must alter your diets and cut down on the foods that increase your bodies production of these chemical.
Foods that cause increased inflammation in the body are: refined sugar (sweets), refined grains ( bread, pasta, bagels ect.)
An Anti-inflammatory diet includes vegetables, fruit, raw nuts, fish, chicken, omega 3, and eggs. The best oils are olive oil, coconut oil, butter, and fish oil.
Research has shown that ginger and white willow bark are natural alternatives for pain. White willow has been shown to be just as effective as celebrex when used for four weeks.
For acute sprain strains bromelain which is found in pineapples is a unique enzyme that helps break down certain proteins that are produced during trauma.
Change your diet and try some of these natural remedies during your next episode of pain and inflammation.

Back to School
It's time for the children to go back to school. Getting them a posture check should be part of their yearly exam. Many spinal conditions begin at an early age only to show up later in life. Finding these imbalances and correcting them now can lead to better health. Chiropractors specialize in spinal detection and correction.
Go ahead, do your child a favor and get the spine tuned up.

Avoiding Heat Stroke
Now that the weather is heating up, it's important to make sure that you avoid a heat stroke. Here are some tips to help you cope with the heat.
1. Drink plenty of water. While in the heat, drink at least 8 oz. of water per hour. Do not wait until you feel thirsty because it may be too late.
2. Pay attention to your medications. Some medications make you more sensitive to heat. Antihistamines, diuretics, laxatives, and many hyper tension drugs can make you more sensitive.
3. Limit the amount of time in the outdoors during the hottest times of the day between 11:00 and 3:00.
Symptoms of a heat stroke.
1. Headaches
2. Dizziness
3. Heavy sweating or lack of sweating
4. Skin that is hot and red.

Back Treatment Isn't miracle Cure
Mayo clinic radiologist Dr. David Kallme's recent study showed that a very common and widely used procedure for Osteoporosis is no better than a placebo. This procedure uses medical cement to fix cracks in spinal bones (vertebralplasty). Pain and disability were the same after six months. Thousands of patients are treated with this procedure each year.
These findings were published in the New England Journal of Medicine. It is estimated that 750,000 Americans suffer painful compression fractures of the spine each year.
Other common safer treatments are bed rest, pain killers, and back braces.

Swine Flu Protection
All this hype about the swine flu is being greatly exaggerated. Statistics show that it really is not much different than the regular flu.I'm not an advocate for the swine flu shot. History from 1976 swine flu shots should be enough to scare you from this shot. I suggest you get all the information you can and talk to your doctor before getting this shot.
Your body comes in contact everyday with hundreds of viruses and bacterias and our immune system fights them off. Your body is designed to fight the bug with it's natural immune system.
Having better health and strenghtening your immune system is your best recipe to avoid any flu including the swine.
Here are some tips to help keep your immune system prepared for any invasion.
1. Eat healthy with a lot of fresh vegetables. Eliminate sugar and processed food.
2. Get your daily exercise. This helps your immune system become energized.
3. Take extra Omega 3 and vitamin D. These are essential in your immune systems chance to fight the bug.
4. Get your rest. Proper rest recharges your immune system. Many people get sick when their rest has been cut short and the immune system is weakened.
5. Drink plenty of water and not sugared drinks.
6. Get a grip on your stress. Stress drains your immune system and weakens your body's abilities to put up a fight.
7. Keep your nervous system free of interference. Chiropractic care can help keep your nervous system free of pressure and dysfunction.

Straight Talk For Success
I came across a good read for everyone to enjoy. Straight Talk For Success
is a book about what it takes to become successful.
The book discusses personal responsibility and that you need to recognize that you are responsible for your life and the choices you make. It means that you realize that while other people and events have an impact on your life, these people and events don't shape your life.
Here are the five skills you need to succeed in your life and career.
1. Self Confidence - believe in yourself and your abilities.
2. Personal Impact - always leave a positive impact and a lasting impression.
3. Outstanding Performance - they set high goals and they achieve them.
4. Good Communicators - Successful people are great communicators.
5. Interpersonal Competence - they build strong lasting relationships.

Wellness
To have Wellness you must have a proper functioning nervous system.
The Nervous System is the master control of all human cells. Each day each cell is either growing or dieing.
Each cell adapts and stays healthy or it cannot adapt and it gets sick.
Each cell is exposed to physical, chemical and emotional stress everyday. The nervous system helps control the stress and keeps the cell healthy.
Chiropractic adjustments turn on the power to the nervous system and helps keep all your cells in sync.

Facts About Pain Relievers
It is estimated that over 40,000 Americans each year have to be hospitalized due to the side effects of common over counter NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Some of these common drugs are; Tylenol, Anacin, Excedrin, ibuprofen, Advil, and Nuprin.
These same drugs can also cause liver and kidney damage.
If you take any of these NSAIDs before going to bed, you will likely cut your body's production of melatonin, a hormone that helps you sleep, by 75%.
My take on this is to live healthy and enjoy wellness without these NSAIDs if possible. If you have been taking these daily for many months then you need to see a doctor and get your problem corrected. Limit your use of these NSAIDs as much as possible.

Electrical Energy
Would your home function without electricity? Think of all the things in your home that would not function if the electricity was diminished or shut off. What happens if you have too much current going to breaker? Would it shut off and shut down all the things it is powering?
Give some thought about your body and how much electrical current is flowing through it every second of everyday. Would if your spine became misaligned and caused pressure to the nerve supply. Which organs in your body would not function correctly? Which nerves would cause pain, numbness, tingling, and loss of function?
Get your spine checked today, to make sure you have full power going to all your body parts.

Turn Up the Heat!
At 212 degrees water is hot, at 212 degrees water boils and produces steam that can power a train. Applying just one degree of temperature to water means the difference between something that is very hot and something that generates enough force to power a large machine.
The message is simple yet this powerful metaphor should be clear to all. Giving just a little extra can make a huge difference.

Feed Your Brain
Brain health should be of great importance to you. You can live without many organs, but you cannot live without your brain. Here are a few key nutrients to help feed your brain everyday.
Omega-3s - this is the main fatty acid in the brain and is associated with brain development and function. Foods that are high in this fatty acid are salmon and other cold water fish, walnuts, and flax seed oil.
Choline - is a water- soluble B vitamin, it is a chemical building block of every cell in the body. Studies show that it may help improve memory and protect against senility in old age. Good sources of Choline are egg yolks, skim milk, soybeans, and lentils.
Folic Acid - this is also a vitamin B, it enhances cognitive function which suggests that it may help protect against the development of Alzheimer's disease. A few good sources of this are spinach, asparagus, and avocado.
It is always important to eat to be healthy!

Dangerous Chemicals In Your Makeup
It is long over due for some type of regulation to exist in the makeup industry. It is intersting to know that some of the same chemicals that have been found in toys which have caused the toys to be recalled are the same chemicals allowed in makeup.
Take a look at the products listed on the label of your makeup. Most of those long words have been known to cause cancer. All these chemicals are being absorbed into your skin and circulating in your blood stream.
The F.D.A. has allowed this industry to be unregulated and very dangerous. There may be a big price that you are paying to look pretty. The word fragrance on the label can come from over one hundred different chemicals. Most of these chemicals are unhealthy and not allowed in many other noncosmetic products.
Remember, whatever goes on your skin, goes into your body. If it shouldn't be eaten, it shouldn't go on your skin.
Some common cosmetics that are contaminated with dangerous chemicals are lipstick, mascara, eye shadow, facial creams and hand lotions.
A great web site to learn more and to find safe products is www.bestinbeauty.com

Eggs Are Healthy
Eggs are one of the healthiest foods you can eat. The idea that eggs are unhealthy is a myth. In the latest studies, researchers have found several different peptides in eggs that act as potent A.C.E. inhibitors. These ACE inhibitors are drugs used to lower high blood pressure.
This means that eggs may actually lower your blood pressure.
Eggs are an incredible source of high quality nutrients.
If possible buy your eggs fresh from a local farmer. Also buying organic eggs are far less likely to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Eggs advertised as having Omega 3 added, may not be as good as the manufacturers are leading you to believe.
Start your day out with a healthy egg for breakfast!

Sleeping Tips
Getting your rest is vital for good health. Most people need 6-8 hours of sleep daily. The sleeping position is important for proper spinal function. Almost everyday we will treat a patient with a very stiff and painful neck due to sleeping incorrectly.
The best position to sleep is on your side in a slight fetal position. If you are sitting up straight in a neutral position in a chair and they froze you and then layed you on your side, you would be in the correct sleeping position. A good pillow that keeps your neck level and arms crossed on your chest will add to a good nights rest. Sleeping on your back is also allowed, but never on your stomach.
Ask a Healthfirst Doctor to check your sleeping posture.

THE BEST DOCTOR ???
People are always looking for the best doctors. I wish everyone would just look in the mirror. Yes, if you looked, it would be you. Everyday you are treating yourself. What you eat, how you exercise, how you sleep, how much stress you carry are all the most important daily treatments that will effect your life. When you begin to doctor yourself better, only then will your life and health improve.
If you're waking up tired, feel stressed, overweight, have digestion problems, have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, taking medications, then its time to start changing some of those habits.
Why can't you become the best Doctor?

Breathing Improves Health
I came across an interesting article by Dr. Andrew Weil's. He is a very well known alternative medical doctor. He mentions that in his many years of practice and studies he believes the #1 thing that can have the biggest impact in your health is a daily breathing technique.
This breathing technique is called the 4-7-8. Sit up straight in a chair and get into a relaxed mode. Close your mouth with your tongue against the inside of your teeth. Take a deep breath in for four seconds and hold it for seven seconds and then release th air out of your mouth slowly for eight seconds. This is the 4-7-8 breathing that he thinks is so important to good health.
Do four of these, three to four times everyday.

Interesting Conversation
I had a very interesting conversation yesterday with an 84 year old patient. She asked why many people don't know about the great benefits of Chiropractic care? She mentioned that she left my office and got back to her Assisted Living home and met with her group of friends. She was feeling much better from the adjustment and her friends had noticed and wondered how a Chiropractor could help. She said "she was amazed at how little her friends knew about Chiropractors."
She asked me "how come we don't share what we do and all the benefits of it with more people?" This was a wake up call for me. Help me change some lives and share the benefits of Chiropractic care with your friends and family.

Go Organic!
It's no surprise that the people in our country are getting bigger and unhealthier. Most of the food consumed today is with little or no nutrients. It is because of the convenience and cost, we limit our consumption of good nutrient foods like fresh fruits and vegetables. We consume many more refined, processed, pre-packaged, and pre-made foods. Many nutrients are lost eating these kinds of foods.
Get back into the game of being healthy and eat more organic foods. Your body will enjoy the nutrients and will have better performance.

Quality Sleep
You should be getting enough sleep and making sure that you are enjoying the sleep. Here are a few ideas to help you sleep better.
1. Create a normal routine. Go to bed and get up at about the same time each day. Have a normal routine of things you do before going to bed each night.
2. Find time to exercise each day. Exercise can help your body achieve better heath which will provide better sleep. Try not to exercise right before going to bed.
3. Take a nap. Find time to take a short nap during the day. However, napping too much during the day can create a short night of sleeping.
4. Eat light and right. Try not to eat or drink at least two hours before going to bed. Always make sure you are eating healthy foods. You will continue to digest your food while sleeping and your body will have a much easier time digesting healthy foods.
5. Sleep on your side. You maintain good posture when you sleep on your side. Never sleep on your stomach. This can create stress to your neck and create spinal problems.
6. Find a firm mattress. Find a mattress that is firm to support your posture.
7. Choose the right pillow. Pillows come in all shapes and sizes. Your pillow should support your neck and its proper position. Keeping your head and neck in a neutral position is important.

Spinal Posture
Part of our new patient examination includes a posture check. Many health problems can begin by having spinal imbalances. The posture machine has two scales built into it. The patient stands onto the machine with each foot place onto each scale.
This will then measure how much body weight you are carrying on the left scale and the right scale. Some patients have at least 20 pounds of more weight distributed on one side compared to the other. This can show how imbalanced your posture is, thus creating stress to the rest of the body.

Imagine
Imagine you were just given a brand new $200,000 Porsche automobile and this would be the only auto you would ever be able to own. When it is done running you will have to walk forever. How would you take care of this car? Would you keep it washed? Change the oil regularly? Use the right unleaded gasoline?
Imagine God giving you one priceless body that needs to last you your lifetime. Would you feed it right? Exercise it regularly? Would you do whatever you could to make it last?
Most people aren't given a $200,000 automobile, but everyone is given a special unique priceless body. Over my 28 years of practice I've seen many people abuse their bodies and unfortunately end up with a shorter life span and with years of sickness.
What will you do to take better care of your priceless body. Make sure it includes regular Chiropractic checkups.

WARNING!!! Plastic Bottles and Cans
The Harvard School of Public Health found that BPA (Bisphenol-a) leaches into your food and gets absorbed by the body. These can be found in most plastics and cans. In fact drinking from a poly carbonate water bottle for just one week can be harmful. Most plastic water bottles contain BPA. A study they performed showed that in one week of drinking from plastic containers, spiked body BPA by 69%.
BPA is an endocrine-disrupter. High levels of BPA in the body are associated with increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, neurological problems, and even cancer. There have been recent laws to keep BPA out of baby bottles.
Drinking fresh filtered water and eating fresh vegetables can go a long way in keeping you healthy. Anything stored in cans or plastics may be causing toxic chemicals to be absorbed into your body.

Help! I'm In Pain
We get calls everyday from people who have been in pain for a long time and want to know what they should do. Many problems are caused by spinal misalignments. When the spine gets locked up it causes stress to that joint and nerve. This creates pressure and eventually pain. If you have never had your spine checked, get it checked soon before you become one of those patients.
At HealthFirst we will perform a comprehensive and complete consultation and evaluation to determine if you have any weak links to your spine and will help you design a plan of action.

I Believe!
I believe by Brian Tracy
I believe every person has within themselves potential they have never even come close to realizing.
I believe each person has far more intelligence than they have ever used.
I believe each person is more creative than he or she has ever imagined.
I believe the greatest achievements of your life lie ahead of you.
I believe the happeiest moments of your life are yet to come.
I believe the greatest successes you will ever attain are still waiting for you on the road ahead.
And, I believe through learning and application of what you learn, you can solve any problem, overcome any obstacle and achieve any goal that you can set for yourself.

Vitamin Myths and Truths
Many labels can fool the average consumer when buying vitamins.Just because a label says that it is natural or organic doesn't mean it is good. It can have one organic or natural ingredient in it and ten other synthetic and artificial ingredients and the label can still say organic or natural.
#4 MYTH: All Organic and Natural Vitamins Are Good.
The F.D.A. has no absolute definition of natural. Many vitamin companies use a very small amounts plant extracts that are natural or organic, but are then packed with a lot of artificially derived chemical additives.
Make sure you are buying wholefood vitamins from a very reputable company. At HealthFirst we use products from Standard Process.
Always check the label for chemical fillers and to make sure they are 100% natural ingredients.

Vitamin Myths and Truths
#3. Myth: Any vitamin Product Is Good, as Long as You're taking Something.
Not all vitamin supplements are created equal. Most non-food vitamins isolate fractional vitamins. These synthetic artificial vitamins are not healthy and do not provide much if any nutrients. Vitamins that come from food are the best . At HealthFirst, we use a whole food brand from Standard Process.

Vitamins Myths and Truths
Many people believe vitamins can replace whole foods, so they take a multiple vitamin every day and don't worry about eating nutritious foods. This is a big mistake.
#2. Myth: The more vitamins you take, the healthier you'll be.
We've been convinced, that mega doses of vitamins are healthy. However, research has proved that that just the opposite is true. Since most vitamins are colloidal (large molecules), synthetic, and contain inorganic elements, binders and fillers, most of the potential health benefits are lost or cannot be utilized properly.
Most synthetic vitamins come in mass-volume and cannot be broken down by the body.
My recommendations is to eat to get your vitamins. If that is difficult, then find a good source of whole food vitamins. We use Standard Process Whole food suuplements in our office. These are organic vitamins that are not synthetic and come from whole foods.

Vitamin Myths and Truths
The next few blogs will help explain the myths and truths about vitamins, so you can make more informed decisions when it comes to your health.
#1. Myth: We get all the vitamins we need from food.
Two hundred years ago it would have been possible to get all your nutrients from food. However, today with the use of chemicals and modern farming practices, it is becoming more difficult. Much of land is over farmed and has a declining soil fertility. This reduces the nutrients in the food we grow and eat.
Today, a good whole food supplement is needed to get all the nutrients your body will need. Talk to a HealthFirst Doctor to get your recommendations.

Energy Drinks??????
Here are three reasons to stay away from common energy drinks.
1. Most energy drinks are loaded with way too much sugar. Either high fructose corn syrup or some form of artificial sweeetner. These can boost your heart rate and blood pressure. They can also cause anxiety, dehydration, and insomnia.
2. Many energy drinks contains up to 280 mg. of caffeine. This almost triples the amount of caffeine in one cup of coffee.
3. Some have only a very small splash of vitamins added and want you to beleive that it is a healthy drink. There is not enough to help you gain any nutritional value.
Stick to drinking good old fashion water to hydrate your body.

Margarine or Butter
Which is better for?
Margaring became popular over butter back early in the 1920's because it was cheaper to make. Chemical agents are added to margarine to give it taste and color. The oils used to make margarine are processed into unnatural fatty acids. These are not healthy for the body.
Margarine lowers the immune system, negatively effects the quality of breast milk, increases total cholesterol and decreases the body's insulin response, which raises the risk of diabetes.
Butter is more natural and healthier for you. Butter also has fatty acids, but these closely resemble the fatty acids in our body
Butter is better, but use it sparingly.

Sugar In The Morning, Sugar In The Evening
What is the best sweetener to use? Extract made from the leaves of the Stevia plant is undoubtedly the safest sweetener on the market.
Unlike aspartame and other artificial sweeteners that have been cited for dangerous toxicities. Most artificial sweeteners can cause serious health conditions when used for long periods of time.
Regular Stevia is a safe natural alternative that's ideal if you're watching your weight or if your maintaining good health by avoiding sugar.
Stevia is hundreds of times sweeter than sugar and has almost no calories.
If you're a diabetic or have an insulin problem, I recommend you avoid all sugar.
If you want wellness and less toxic in your body, then I suggest you stay away from all artificial sweetners including aspertame and nutri-sweet.

Cereals Not Worth Eating
Consumer report finds some breakfast cereals are more than half sugar by weight.
Some cereals like Kellogg's Honey Smack and Post's Golden Crisp are more than 50% sugar by weight. They also carry as much sugar as a glazed donut. At least nine other brands tested were 40% or more in sugar.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You and your childrens bodies have gone 8-12 hours without any food and nutrients while sleeping. When you wake up in the morning your body is depleted of nutirents and is in great need for a very healthy nutrient filled breakfast.
I suggest eggs, wheat toast, fruit and steel oats.

Facial Cosmetics?
The cosmetic industry is highly unregulated. Manufacturers can use any ingredient they want in the products you may be using on your face and body. Make-up, facial creams and lotions are some of the common products we put on our skin that may be toxic. It's nice to look pretty, butplease no toxic chemicals.
Our skin is the largest organ of the body. It absorbs anything you put on it. I wouldn't put anything on my skin that I wouldn't put in my mouth.
Check your product ingredients and see if you are using make-up, lotions, shampoos, and creams that may effect your health
Here are a few of the bad ingredients in cosmetics.
1. Triethanaline
2. Methylparban
3. propyl paraben
4. DmDmhydantoin
5. propylene glycol
6. Diazolidinyl urea
Check your cosmetics and make sure you use those that are friendly to your body.
Check on our HealthFirst face book.

Just A Thought
Wellness and Chiropractic do not last, but neither does bathing; that's why I recommend it often.
Being healthy is a choice. When you have a choice and don't make it, that is in itself a choice.
Reputation is what others think about you; Character is what God knows about you.

Reputation is what others think about you; Character is what God knows about you.

Wellness Thoughts
Here are some of my Wellness thoughts.
The human body is self regulating and self healing.
When you begin to run your heart rate speeds up on it's own because it knows your body needs more blood supply which carries oxygen and nutrients. When you quit running the heart slows down. Your body also sweats when you run or exercise because it is heating up and needs to get rid of some of that heat. When you stop exercising you then quit sweating. This is all done with out you telling your body what and how to do it. We call this self regulating.
It is also self healing. If you happen to get a cut, you could do nothing in most cases and the bleeding will stop and eventually heal on it's own.
Your innate intelligence is constant and perfect, it just needs no interference.
Our genes are programed to be healthy. They become unhealthy due to deficiency and toxicity.
All living things are composed of individual cells working together in a self healing and self regulating ecosystem to maintain homeostasis.
Health is a state of consistent homeostatic cell function. Sickness is the lack of consistent homeostatic cell function.
There are two main stressors that cause homeostatic cell dysfunction.
1. Deficiencies 2. Toxicities
Symptoms and disease are simply signs that the intelligence of the mind, body and spirit are under stress and are being forced to adapt to a lesser form of living.
Wellness is a way of living that enables your body and intelligence to function with out interference.
Daily exercise, eating well nourished food and having good positive thoughts will carry you, your genes and your wellness a long way.

Preventing Golf Injuries
Lack of fitness and flexibility contributes to most golf injuries. Most injuries occur in the back, shoulders and wrist.
During the typical golf swing, the low back under goes a variety of forces including compression and rotation. You can reduce this stress and prevent back injuries by stretching and strengthening your spine.
Here are a few of my tips to help you prevent a golf injury.
1. Spend a little time at home everyday swinging with out a golf club. Going through the golf swing mechanics can help stretch and coordinate muscles to work together.
2. Warm up and stretch your muscles before a round of golf. A good stretch will go a long way toward preventing injuries.
3. Learn to swing the club properly. A proper mechanical golf swing will cut down your chances of injury.
4. Use the right clubs. Having too long or short of clubs can cause an injury. See a golf pro for proper club fitting.
5. Have fun.

Swine flu
There has been a lot of discussion about the new swine flu bug. As with most virus and bacteria promoting illnesses, it is very important to keep your natural immune system healthy.
If germs caused diseases then every time you inhaled a virus you would get sick. This is far from what really happens. Each and everyday we are exposed to many viruses and our immune system detects them and destroys them. This is the normal process of a healthy human.
When our immune system is weakened, we then become susceptible to the virus or bacteria and illness sets in.
Here is what you can do to help prevent many viral diseases. Eat well, move well and think well. Eating a healthy diet and exercising will help protect your immune system and give your trillions of cells a chance to fight the bug without being invaded. Move well, exercising is so important to a healthy immune system. Find time to get a walk or jog in today. Think well, having a positive attitude and thinking good thoughts keeps your immune system strong and always in a fighting mood for those little viruses.
Rather than worrying about the swine flu, take more positive healthy steps to keep your immune system in working order.

How to Get Quality Sleep
Getting enough sleep is only half the battle; making sure you enjoy quality sleep is entirely a different story. Here are some tips to make your sleep truely restful.
Sleep is needed to regenerate the mind and body. I'm sure at some point in your life you have missed a day of sleep and you know how useless the body and mind eventually become.
There are more than 70 known sleep disorders. Many sleeping problems can lead to memory lapses, loss of energy, fatigue, and emotional instability. Some conditions even lead to poor school and work performance.
Here are some tips to getting a restful sleep.
1. Try going to bed and getting up at the same time. This helps your body have a consistent sleep cycle.
2. Try not to eat before going to bed. Especially not sweets. Limit your fluid intake one hour before bed.
3. Create an ideal environment for a deep sleep. Make your room dark and quiet.
4. Get some daily exercise, but not within two hours of going oto bed.
The position you sleep in and the mattress and pillow you use influence your quality of sleep.
The best position to sleep is on your side-fetal type position. Knees should be slightly bent and arms across your chest. Sleeping on your back is also a good position. Never sleep on you stomach.
Your mattress should be firm and supportive. A pillow top mattress is fine.
Your pillow should support your neck and head in a natural position. The pillow should not be to thick or thin. When in a sitting position, you should be able to lay down on your pillow without your head moving in a different position.
Sleep is truly an important time for our bodies to rest and regenerate. Because it is so important, you should spend a little time evaluating your sleeping position, mattress and pillow.

Success Principle #6
This one is my favorite. I think its important to begin and end each day with thankfulness. God fills each of our days with an abundance of blessings and we shouldn't take those things lightly.
#6 The Power of Gratitude:
The more thankful you are, the more deserving you become and the more the universe gives you.
Focus and be thankful on what you have and not on what you don't have.
Appreciation makes gratitude a habit and nourishes the goodness in your life.
Gratitude is a powerful magnet.
Find some time today to send a short note of gratitude to some of the special people in your life.

Success Principle #5
#5 The Power of Giving:
There is an old saying " the hole you give through is the hole you receive through."
Giving is like a boomerang, it always comes back to you.
We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.
When you give it away, you tell the universe that you can handle more.
We are judged by our actions, not by our intentions.
Start today, find away to give to someone who least expects it.
I will share #6 with you tomorrow.

Success Principle #4
The Power Of Partnerships:
Life is about building relationships.
You cannot succeed alone.
Your greatest competition is with yourself.
Choose your friends wisely. All of your relationships affect who you are and where you are going.
One of God's greatest gifts to us is our freedom of choice.
Remember who you choose to partner up with can make you or break you.
See you tomorrow for #5.

Success Principle #3
I want to share with you the 3rd power principle of success.
#3 The Power of Vision:
Vision is a mental picture of the life you want to have.
Remember that you can't be until you see. You cannot be or have anything bigger than what your mind can see.
See your dream, be crystal clear, write it down, and review it daily.
Create a dream board with pictures of how you see your life. When your mind see's this, it will gravitate towards this.
When your mind has a vision of what you want you to be, your paradigm changes and so do you.
Try taking some time today and create your dream board. This may be the first time for some of you to see what kind of life you really want. Many of you wake up everyday and take what is there, rather than getting up and going after what it is that you really want. Also, take a minute today to look into the mirror. When, what you see in that mirror changes, your world changes.
I'll see you tomorrow for another important principle. If any of these blogs are being enjoyed or you have a topic suggestion, please let me know with a comment.

Success Principle #2
I hope you gave some thoughts to yesterdays post. I want to share the second law of success with you today.
#2 The Power of Paradigms:
Creating a new paradigm is simple, just give up old thoughts and nurture positive thoughts.
Are your thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs limiting your success?
What you constantly think about is what you become. Fill your mind and thoughts on the true, noble, gracious-the best, not the worse: the beautiful , not the ugly: things to praise, not to curse.
To change paradigms, give new thoughts and attitudes more attention and old thoughts less.
The past does not equal the future.
When you start looking at the world and you differently, then you and the world becomes different.
See you tomorrow for Principle #3.

Seven Power Principles Of Success
Cracking the code of success is difficult for some people. If you understand the principles of success you too can enjoy the fruits of a successful life. We live in an orderly universe that is governed by distinct and definite laws. When we succeed, we succeed because we are living in alignment with those laws.
In the next seven days I want to share with you the seven principles or laws that can help you find unlimited success in all aspects of your life. I will share one principle per day with you. This will give you time to reflect on your life and determine how you can use that principle to move you towards greater success.
#1. The Power of Understanding:
God's greatest gift to you is your unlimited potential. Your greatest gift back, is to use that potential to the fullest.
Your current situation is a result of your past thoughts, decisions and actions. You control where you are and where you are going.
To change where you are, you have to change your attitude and change what you're doing.
When you change, your world changes.
Our purpose as humans is to create and express all that we can in life and grow into our highest potential.
Nothing in the universe stands still, it's always changing either better or worse.
Be very clear about what you focus on. What you focus on is what becomes. Focus on what you want more of.
You can't be it until you see it. You have to see it in your mind before you can get it in real life.
Up to this point you are exactly where you want to be based on your thoughts, actions, and decisions. When you decide to change these three things you and your world changes.
Spend some time today deciding how you are going to take more responsibility about where your life is and how you can begin to change it. We like to blame other people and things for the way our lives are, but the law says it's really just you.
I'll see you tomorrow for Principle #2.

3 Strikes For Cold Medicine
Children's cough and cold medicines have not been good news. A recent study in the Medical Journal Pediatrics mentions about the use of these cough and cold medicines in children under the age of 6 may cause as many as 500 child deaths a year, causing many to believe that the dangers are not worth the risk.
The first strike against cough and cold medicines came in 2006, when the (ACCP) American College of Chest Physicians stated that over-the -counter cough and cold medicines are ineffective in treating the underlying causes of the cough. The guidelines they presented strongly recommended against the use of such medicines ages 14 and younger.
Strike two came in 2008-that's when the F.D.A. issued a public health advisory recommending that over-the-counter cough and cold products not be given to infants and children under 2 years of age because of serious side effects.
We hope there is no third strike. Now that science is showing that they are neither effective or safe. Ask a HealthFirst Doctor about natural alternatives to these dangerous medicines.

Foods That Fight Cancer
For many years, various studies have shown that eating cruciferous vegetables can lower your risk of getting cancer. Some cruciferous vegetables are broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, turnips, kale, radish and bok choy.
These vegetables have a unique compound called sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol. Both compounds allow the body to detoxify cancer-causing chemicals. They stop the growth of certain kinds of cancer cells.
Make sure you include these vegetables in your diet everyday.

My Skin Does What?
Your skin gives shape to your body.
The skin acts as a barrier, protecting the body from invading bacteria, virus, ect.
The skin acts as a thermostat and helps to regulate body temperature.
The skin senses environmental hazards, such as excess heat and cold.
The skin is the largest eliminative organ of the body. It uses sweat to help get rid of waste fluid and purify the body. As the body detoxifies, the skin responds with acne, eczema, psorasis, boils, ect. The pores of the skin allow the body to breath to rid itself of toxins. Clogged pores interfere with this function.
Your shower water is treated with many chemicals especially chlorine. The soaps and shampoos we use are made of many chemicals. Facial makeup, perfume and cologne all have many harmful chemicals. What you feed your body is very important and just as important is what you put on your skin. Give your skin a chance and take some time to review what you're feeding your skin. If you have questions about skin care, ask your HealthFirst Doctor.

Skin Facts
The skin is the largest organ of the body.
The skin of an average adult covers approximately 7 square feet of space.
The skin is 16% of a person's body weight.
Every hour, the skin sheds a layer of dead cells and totally renews itself every 3-4 weeks.
A person discards as much as 88 pounds of dead skin in a lifetime.
When it comes to feeding your skin with lotions, it would be well served to use natural products. Be careful of many lotions as they contain many dangerous chemicals. These chemicals are absorbed into your blood stream creating a toxic body. Anything you put on your skin, you should be able to put in your mouth, it all gets into your blood stream.

Frazzled at Work?
If you're feeling a lttle frazzled at work, I,ve got some pointers to help you reduce on the job stress.
1. Plan your day. Start your day by creating a "To Do" list. You will always be much more in control when you know what is going on in your day.
2. Do it right. Always get it done right the first time. Having to take time to do things over again can add a lot stress and time to your planned schedule.
3. Prioritize. Always work on what needs to be done first. When you're making out your plans for the day, keep in mind the importance of each item to be done and get what really needs to be done first. When putting off things that need to be done, the stress level rapidly increases.
4. Don't be afraid to say no. Before accepting another project or work, make sure you're able to complete your existing list.
5. Don't be afraid to ask for help. All great companies have teamwork. Asking for help can reduce stress and frustation.
Make it a great day today!!!
>
1. Plan your day. Start your day by creating a "To Do" list. You will always be much more in control when you know what is going on in your day.
2. Do it right. Always get it done right the first time. Having to take time to do things over again can add a lot stress and time to your planned schedule.

Exercise Your Core
Your core is the center of your body. The core consist of 29 muscles located in your pelvis, lower back, hips, and abdomen. Strengthening the core can correct postural imbalances, prevents lower back pain, reduces body tension, and improves coordination.
When you strengthen the core you stablize the spine, pelvis, shoulders, and improve overall body function.
You just need to take a few minutes each day at your home to work on core exercises. If you are not sure what to do, ask a HealthFirst Doctor to show you what you need to do to strenghten your core.

Top Six Causes of Death For Men
On average, women outlive men by roughly five years. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2003, life expectancy for men was 74.8 years as compared to 80.1 years for women.
Here are the top six causes of death for men:
1. Heart Disease
2. Cancer
3. Unintentional injuries
4. Stroke
5. Pulmonary Disease
6. Diabetes
The upside is that most of these killers are preventable with proper health care. This is just another reason why we should pay more attention to taking better care of ourselves.

Get Some Protein
Dietary protein is vital to our health. It plays a key role in muscle building and tissue maintenance, red blood cell formation, hormone synthesis, and hair and fingernail health.
Protein is very important in promoting healthy sugar metabolism. This is important for all of us , but especially for diabetic patients. Research indicates that eating moderate amounts of protein at regular meals and snacks helps to promote your blood sugar levels.
Here is a list of my favorite proteins: eggs, fish(halibut, sardines, salmon), cheese, cottage cheese, beans, chicken, and steel cut oatmeal.
When its difficult to get the proper amount of protein, I recommend a protein shake using Standard Processes Powered Whey Protein Mix. This protein powder mix can be used in a shake or just sprinkled on your food. This contains 15 grams of protein per serving. It supplies just 80 calories and contains no artificial flavorings found in most protein powders.
Ask your HealthFirst Doctor about your protein intake.

Healthy Sweeteners
Imagine being able to enjoy delicious sweet-tasting foods without the calories of sugar or the health risk of artificial sugars.
Now you can with Stevia and Lakanto.
These two amazing, all natural calorie free, sugar substitutes should be used instead of white refined sugar or artificial sweeteners.
In general, both Stevia and Lakanto are excellent sweeteners for just about any foods you want to sweeten.
Stevia is best used for hot and cold drinks and cereals.
Lakanto is best used in baking.
Whether you use Stevia or Lakanto, it's great to have the option to choose healthy all natural sweeteners.

The Moo Factor
This is an important time in your life. The MOO factor is the "Margin of Opportunity"
It is from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. What you do or don't do during this time will determine the quality of your health. This margin of time will determine if your time is spent to improve your health or to decrease your health.
Will you find time to exercise? Will you make good decisions on eating quality foods. Will you enjoy the day with a happy attitude? Will you be thankful and have an attitude of gratitude?
One of our greatest gifts is to have the Choice on how we decide to enjoy each day and on how we take care of our bodies.
Remember you only get one body, take care of it.

Eat Those Eggs
Eggs are one of the healthiest foods we can eat. There are proteins found in eggs that seem to lower high blood pressure.
It is a myth that eggs are unhealthy and full fof cholesterol. Scientists have identified several peptides in eggs that act as Ace Inhibitors which lowers your blood pressure. This means that you will actually lower your chance of heart disease by eating eggs.
Cholesterol is in every cell in your body, where it helps to produce cell membranes, hormones, vitamin D and bile salts. It also helps in the formation of memories and is important to your neurological function.
The International Journal of Cardiology published a research that showed eating eggs everyday would not cause an increase in cholesterol levels.
Have fun, eat those eggs. I might suggest that you buy your eggs from your local farmer or buy organic eggs from your local market.

Fruits With the Most Pesticides
The USDA conducted 43,000 tests for fruits and pesticides and here are the surprising results.
The top four loaded fruits sprayed with the most pesticides are: Peaches, Apples, Strawberry, and Pears. These four almost double the amount of pesticides compared to other fruits.
This may be a good reason to take extra time cleaning these fruits before eating. Better yet, try to buy these fruits organicly grown. These are pesticide free. These are great fruits and should continue to be eaten.

Free Range Chicken
Free range chickens have been a popular marketing tool. Technically, free range chickens must have access to the outdoors for at least 51 percent of their lives, but the USDA, which approves each manufacturer's "free range" claim on a case-by-case basis, does not strictly define "outdoors." The term could mean anything from idyllic open acreage to a puny pen.
I'm sure that there are some manufactures that really to let their chickens roam free, but many do not. Just having a little door to be able to go outside can be termed a free range chicken, it may never see outdoors.
I still like the idea of free range and no antibiotic chickens. We need to do some homework on the company we buy our chickens from.

Brain Care
Taking care of your brain is very important especially as we age.
Here are four keys to a healthy brain.
1. Stay active. movement and exercises improves cognitive function. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain.
2. Get your proper amount of sleep. The brain moves memories into long-term storage during deep sleep. If this process is interrupted it can interfer with this process.
3. B vitamins are important especially vitamin B-12. Take Cataplex B and G to get the proper amounts of B vitamins.
4. Be careful on your medications. Some medications can cloud your brain activities.

How Harmful Are Your Radiation Tests?
Everyday we are exposed to natural radioactive materials, just by living here on earth.A recent article helps put some radiation test into perspective.
X-rays: X-rays penetrate the body, but not the bones. One chest x-ray gives off the same amount of radiation as a person would receive naturally in ten days.
CT Scans: These are 3-D x-rays, taken multiple times to show several layers of bone and muscle. The amount of radiation varies depending on the area scanned. A CT of the abdomen or spine, for example, equals three years of daily radiation. But a head a head scan equals eight months' worth.
Ultrasound: This test uses acoustic radiation, or sound waves, to shoe an internal body part and does not pose a radiation risk.
MRI: These do not use radiation. Instead, it uses magnets and a radio-frequency pulse that tracks the hydrogen atoms in the body to create an image.
Bone-Density Test: This test uses X-ray technology, but at a very low dose. One scan is equal to one day of natural radiation.

Sugar May be Addictive
Science continues to show that sugar can be addictive. Leading researcher Bart Hoebel, a professor of psychology at Princeton University said "drinking large amounts of sugar water when hungry can cause behavioral changes and even neurochemical changes in the brain.
These changes are also evident in fattening foods and have an impact on the regulating mechanism that breaks down your sense of fullness, makes you feel an urge to go back and get that blast of sugar and this creates the vicious cycle of weight gain.
Watch what you put into your mouth. It just might be the most important thing you do today.

America is Losing the War on Fat
American's spend $33 billion annually on weight-loss plans, health clubs, exercise videos, and fat fighting gadgets. yet, we are rapidly becoming a nation of wide-bodies.
In the past decade, the overweight population in the U.S. has ballooned to 35 percent! And that only accounts for people who are at least 20 percent over their ideal weight.
Experts say the problem is not because people are pigging out. But, rather that the proportions of the fat calories we eat has increased by 30 percent.
The solution isn't fat-free foods. Studies show that most people are fooled into overeating them.
Remember to eat more fruits and vegetables. If the label has to advertise fat-free, there is a good chance it is not good for you. By the way you won't find any produce with a label saying fat-free. Start eating better healthier foods.

Once I Go Do I Always Have to Go?
Many of my patients have commented that they have heard that once you see a Chiropractor they always want you to keep coming back. Wellness is a lifestyle. The more you do to promote good health will determine your health status. Once you understand the benefits of chiropractic care and its impact on your overall health , you will want to get regular chiropractic care.
Once you start brushing your teeth, eating healthier, taking vitamins and doing many other healthy things, you don't have to continue to do them, but you understand the positive impact it will have on your wellness and you choose to continue.
If you haven't had your spine checked, its time to include this in your wellness plan.

Four Leadership Lessons
Here are four leadership tips from Bill gates..
1. Take two retreats every year. Get away from your everyday hustle and develop your long range plans. Take a look at your business, personal, social and spiritual areas of your life and design a plan to get where you want to be.
2. Read books. Find books of all interest.
3. Identify problems early by inspecting. It is important to always inspect what you expect.
4. Stop at the end of the day and replay the day. What did you get done and what do you need to do first thing tomorrow? What could have you done better or done more of?
I have always believed that successful people form the habit of doing what failures don't like to do.

Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy
New research by the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research suggests that there is an increased potential for spinal instability in pregnant women, which results in spinal fixations and may affect the health and well-being of both mother and fetus.
There is great potential for musculo-skeletal stress and postural changes during pregnancy. Many of these stressed and postural changes can be helped and relieved by chiropractic adjustments.
If you're pregnant it will be of great benefit to have your spine checked.
Visit www.LiveHealthFirst.com to setup a consulation with a HealthFirst Doctor.

Some Mistakes to Avoid at The Gym
You are serious about getting into shape and staying in shape. But, if it has been some time since you've sweated, here some some things to think about.
Most injuries in the gym are due to imbalances and over doing to catch up for lost time. Here are some common hazards that can sideline you.
1. Always warm up. Get the blood flowing with a slow light running in place jog. Then spend some time stretching your legs, arms, and back.
2. Proper foot wear. Spend a little extra money on a new pair of quality workout shoes. You may even want to look into orthotic inserts.
3. Start out with light weights. Trying to lift too much weight is a set-up for a muscle injury.
4. Always drink plenty of water.
5. Make sure you cool down and stretch when finished.
6. Get a spinal check up before beginning your exercise program. A proper functioning nervous system and spine are vital to your fitness program.

Do I need Chiropractic Care?
If you have never had Chiropractic care before, it may be difficult to know when to seek treatment from a Doctor of Chiropractic. Pain is usually the symptom that gets a person to visit a chiropractor. However many are seeking chiropractic care to enhance their overall health and well-being.
A persons need for chiropractic care varies depending on their general health, physical condition, age, lifestyle, injuries and hereditary factors.
Waiting for pain to begin may be to late in some cases. Once the condition has reached the point of pain, a great deal of strain and irritation has already occurred.
It is a great idea to include chiropractic in your yearly checkup. It is just as important to know how your spine and nervous system are functioning as it is to know how your lung, heart, and digestive system are functioning.
Getting regular spinal chckups from a chiropractor can help detect weaknesses and prevent problems from occurring.
