Carrying heavy backpacks, purses, briefcases, or shopping bags, on one shoulder can cause you to walk off balance. This creates your torso muscles to contract and makes one side of your spine work harder. Overtime this can create a weakening to your back and cause unnecessary back problems.
Carry no more than 25% of your body weight in your backpack. Switch shoulders or hands frequently. Keep the carrying pieces close to the body for less strain on the muscles.
